2% thoriated tungsten electrodes are the most commonly usedelectrodes today and are proferred for their longevity and ease ofuse. Thorium increases the electron emission qualities of theelectrode, which inproves arc starts and allows for a highercurrent carrying capacity. This electrode operates far below itsmeltion temperature, which results in a considerably lower rate ofconsumption and eliminates arc wandering for greater stability. Italso features a lowe level of weld contamination than otherelectrodes.
